In response to a request by Checks & Balances Project for an investigation into the activities of Sussex County Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve White, the county’s sheriff said he is referring the matter to the county’s commonwealth attorney and state police.
Here’s Sheriff Ernest Giles Sr.’s email to C&BP:
“Received. Good morning, Mr. Locker. This office will forward this concern matter to the Sussex County Commonwealth Attorney’s office today. However, Mr. White being an elected county official, this will be a conflict. This office will remove itself from any investigation pertaining to this matter and request the Commonwealth to have Virginia State Police. VSP being an assisting third party ( neutral) agency would not have such conflict as this agency. “
